So I'm considering applying to UIUC for Chem engineering, and I know that there are some scholarships which are awarded based on high ACT scores and GPA, including the University Achievement award of $12000. I have a 4.0 UW/4.4 W GPA after junior year with 6 AP's taken, and I got a 34 on the ACT when I took it. However, I'm retaking it in September and I've been doing a lot of practice, so I really believe that I can get it to at least a 35 or even a 36. Do you think that with this 4.0/36 combination, if i reach it, would put me in pretty good contention for merit aid as an engineering applicant? My EFC is above the total COA, so no financial need, but 38k a year for OOS is still something that would be nice to reduce.

ipepper94- I think you are an excellent candidate for merit aid as OOS student if you get a 35 or 36 (or even with a 34).

Apply during priority application period for best chance. Good luck!

Yes, be sure to apply priority. I did not, and even with a 34 ACT, I received nothing.

You have great stats, but just so you’re aware, Chemical Engineering isn’t in the College of Engineering – it’s actually in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS), and they don’t have as much money appropriated for scholarships as the engineering department does.
