Likely letters should be going out soon. D received hers last year in early March. So you might actually find out sooner than 36 days. Good luck!

I remember reading in the Peabody forum about it , but I want to say 5% , either from that forum or that is is only Yale’s regular admissions rate lol

Verycoolkid…D’s came in the mail last year. We initially thought it was simply one of the hundreds of pieces of college “junk mail” that we received her junior/senior year and cast it aside. I had no clue what a likely was nor did I know UVA sent them until I read about it on this thread. She also got one from UNC so if you happen to be applying there, be on the look out for one from them as well. Last year Dean J warned frantic kids who did not receive one not to worry; she explained the vast majority DON’T get one and MANY of those still get accepted to UVA. Also, if you happen to receive one do not be misguided and think you automatically have been accepted into the Echols/Rodman program. D was asked to be in the honors program at UNC (OOS) but not at UVA (OOS). Based on her stats/resume she was a bit surprised; however, it did not deter her from ultimately choosing UVA. She is applying this year, and we’re hopeful. I would add one thing about Echols…if you’re not asked to be a part of the program, it’s not that big of a deal. There is no merit scholarship tied to it. The benefits are no mandatory distribution requirements, priority registration, special advisors, and living in a group dorm your first year. For certain kids like my D, the waiving of core requirements is irrelevant – she started UVA with 51 hours due to APs and had already completed these classes. The other benefits, however, are appealing.

jc40, though the vast majority of applicants don’t recieve a likely letter, the pure thought of it is ecstacy. I certainly do not think I’ll recieve one, but I’m not going to lie - I will be sprinting to my mailbox daily. BTW, if you don’t mind mr asking, was your daughter instate for either UNC or UVA?

@jc40 thanks very much! any of you guys know…even you Dean J…if UVA offers merit scholarship?
also when are these likely letters likely (haha) to come?

Yes, there is a small amount of merit money, but it is NOT controlled by the admission office. We do not get to discount tuition (which is what most people consider merit money).

Do a search of the website. The Alumni Association and Student Financial Services control most of the scholarship money.
