so do they call everyone that applied? or just those likely to get in?

31

lol I like that song, and im going to “open the door” to their phone call,

sorrry got it! i just had to read the comments haha!

:D I love these classic songs. Feel free to continue posting them!

Exactly one months guys. Get pumped!

Lupe fiasco is a good artist , I’ve been listening to [YouTube - Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On - New Album “Lasers” In Stores March 8th!](<a href=“Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On - YouTube”>Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On - YouTube) a lot lately to keep my confidence up , and [YouTube - The Notorious BIG - Juicy (Lyrics)](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube) lol

I can’t personally relate to either song but I like the ideas behind them, especially in Juicy when he says " this is for all the teachers that told me i’d never amount to nothing." Even though no teacher ever said that to me lol, and then the timeless line " if you dont know, now you know"

I wrote my essay for UVa on Lupe Fiasco :D

@theman44

I would have to say lupe is “the man.” lol

your essay was probably really good then

29 more days.

Sigh, still have not received any type of call. GL to everyone in regards to likely letters.

We live in Virginia, but none of my kids applied to UVA. However, I’m almost positive that everyone heard well before April 1 - maybe mid-March? I don’t know if it’s different this year, but I feel pretty much everyone had a decision well before the date you’re counting down to.

Swimmer, for the past two years, decisions have come out early. I believe last year was March 25 give or take a day. I’m sure we will be updated if the decision is going to come out early. But until then, the date is April 1st.

I’m sure that is exciting to everyone here. Word on the street is that a LOT more in-state people have applied because of cost, so that could slow them down and move it closer to April 1.

I hope thats the reason for increased application numbers and not increased OOS applications… If they stick to the 66 and 33%, that is.

There was a jump in applications this year and that will always extend the process. The VA:OOS ratio doesn’t change the fact that there are more files to read. :)

The notification date is April 1st. We try to be early. Every school tries to be early. I’ve explained before that we don’t know when the notification date will be until we get pretty close to it.

Here is when we posted notification in past years:

2007 - March 30
2008 - March 28
2009 - March 26
2010 - March 26
2011 - ???

Dean J–now that you mention it, what is the VA:OOS ratio for the applicant pool?

I don’t have a current stat, but there are always more OOS applications, which is why the admit rates are lopsided.

You can see stats from past years on the blog if you do a search for “statistics.”

We are going on vacation tomorrow and will be out of touch through phone and internet for more than a week. Maybe that is a good thing but I worry, since W&M doesn’t have typical ‘status’ page for students, that we will get a request the day we leave for info and then won’t be able to respond before I am back in the area on Friday, March 18. Ack.

Will that make it too late to give info if asked? We did get email asking for some Fin Aid backup on 2/28 and I responded immediately. My daughter has roughly a 4.6 weighted GPA, dual enrollment and several AP classes this year that, so far, she has received all A’s in, lots of extracurriculars, international exchange experience, and volunteer work but her SAT was only 1920 (I think! I know for the main two parts it was 1290 and I am pretty sure essay portion she got 630) so it seems, based on stats, it is a stretch for her to get into W&M or UVA which are the only two she wants to go to in VA. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I really think W&M is the best fit for her but, other than offering my initial opinion, I am keeping mum because it needs to be 100% her decision.

I hate to wish my family vacation away but I want it to be April 1!!

We sent all requests for additional information already. What’s more, your daughter has the SIS to check. If she has the “view decision” icon at the bottom of her SIS page, the admission office doesn’t need anything from her.

Perhaps you meant to post in the W&M forum?

She does have the view decision check from UVA. I think she is leaning towards UVA if accepted. I know UVA is a fabulous school but, due to proximity, I really want her to be accepted to and choose W&M. They aren’t as slick with their admission stuff. Maybe that is a signal to me that UVA is better choice if given the choice? :-)

I wouldn’t describe either of us as slick! There are some colleges out there with pretty stunning marketing materials, but they are mostly private schools with far bigger admission budgets than we have at VA publics.

If your daughter winds up having to pick between the two of us, she can’t really make a wrong decision. :)
