what would you think is the 3rd best school in boston after harvard and mit??

I dispute the premise of your question because

I don't think Harvard and MIT are the best for undergraduate

They aren't specifically located in Boston (Cambridge)

Ignoring the two premises, I'd vote Olin.

I would say Boston University, judging in general. However, Tufts, Brandeis, Olin, and Boston College could win out based on specific criteria.

BU??? Seriously?

Tufts, BC, and Brandeis are much better at least in a national perspective. Olin would probably be the 'best' but is so limited that some might not count it.

Olin is quite limited, I dont think I would compare it to Harvard and MIT, though Olin is great for engineering.

If we assume that the area around Boston is all considered Boston (Chestnut Hill, Waltham, Cambridge..etc) Tufts is probably the answer, although if you consider Wellesley part of Boston that could be your answer. BC and Brandeis would be slightly below these

BU is the best school that is actually in Boston

I gotta vote for Olin as #1 for undergraduate study. That place is just incredible for undergrads.

Again, assuming like others, that by Boston you mean the Boston metropolitan area, then Tufts. Wellesley and Brandeis coming in quite closely behind, in that order.

If you mean Boston proper, then Harvard and MIT don't count either. ;)

Definitely Tufts.

And am I the only person who thinks BU (except for General Studies) is better than BC? I'm judging based mostly on the kids I know from high school who went to either school.

Is the except for General Studies thing necessary? We arent retards you know...

Tufts, Wellesley, Olin, Brandeis.

I think the third spot is a tie between Tufts, Wellesley, and Olin.

northeastern

^ Hahaha :D

Olin is a specialized school, so other than engineering, it doesn't compare with the others.

I'd say Tufts (sadly underrated).

Kyle: Do you think Tufts would be less "underrated" if it weren't in the same city as MIT and Harvard? Or does it actually somewhat benefit (or is it starting to benefit, maybe) from its ability to hold its own even while being so geographically close to these long-time academic powerhouses?

To tell you the truth, lolabelle, I thought Tufts was in the South for the longest time. I found out that it's actually in MA a few months ago, so no, I don't think its proximity to Harvard/MIT has any effect on how others rate it.

100% tufts

Schools actually in Boston proper include:
BU
Emerson
U Mass Boston
Northeastern
Emmanuel
Simmons
Harvard Medical and Dental Schools
Wentworth
Mass College of Pharmacy
Berklee College of Music
Mass College of Art

Boston College is in Chestnut Hill
Harvard, MIT are in Cambridge
Tufts is in Medford/Somerville
Brandeis and Bentley are in Waltham

I chose BU partly because it is right IN the city, partly because it is large and comprehensive, and partly because it does not have any religious connection. BC and Brandeis may not appeal to everyone because of the religious aspect. BC, Brandeis, and Tufts are all removed from the city in varying degrees.

Tufts, fo' sho'.
