3rd Nomination... commom?

I just received my third nomination today. I had Congressman Bishop and Senator Clinton, and now today I also have Senator Schumer. so I got one from everyone I applied to (excluding Vice).

I’m just wondering, is this common, especially in a competitive state like New York, or is it not too common to find someone with 3 nominations?

And does having 3 nominations as opposed to only 1 help one’s changes of getting an appointment?

Thank you!

George G.

uh, not common.

It doesn't really help your chances, but it certainly says something about your chances.

I have three nominations as well, and im working on the 4th with my presidential. I too was wondering the same thing, but I dont live in a too competitive state.

Our son is in the same situation as well (nominations from MOC and both Senators, plus Presidential).

From asking our ALO and queering about here (and on serviceacademyforums), we're under the same general opinion: it doesn't specifically improve your chances (unless one of your Noms was a Principal, which pretty much means your in if you remain medically, physically and academically qualified), but it may show the admissions board that quite a few people with nominating authority believe in you.

What having multiple noms does give the Admissions Board is more options. They can use your MOC's nom on someone else, and use your Senator's nom for you, or one of the myraid of other combinations.

Lots of us here in the same boat: stressing about when and if we will hear any positive news. All I can say about ways to deal with the stress for you: keep studying hard, keep working out to get better prepared for BCT, and keep working on other options (just in case). Bottom Line: keep busy and occupied in order to keep you mind of of it. How do I (and probably quite a few other parents here) plan to deal with the stress? Continuing to support our children during the next few months is the key (having a well-stocked liqour cabinet helps as well! :) )

Cheers Bullet!

THAT made me LOL, Bullet! :) I love your coping mechanisms!

Congrats to all with multiple noms and I wish for you all that you get the news you're all waiting for--soon.

Singaporemom, good luck with the house-hunting!

Thanks flymom. I'm looking forward to the diversion! Son made the final final decision that he will definitely choose USAFA over his ROTC college if accepted. He has never verbalized it until on the way home from school Tuesday. So, now I can be even more nervous that this IS his first choice and he really really wants to go. Hey, it's after midnight here in Singapore, I can drink!

My son had 4 nominations-2 from his Congressman, 1 from a Senator and one that simply said "We have received an additional nomination for you", without showing the source on the card. He completed his CFA in December due to an injury, so his file went to the board late. We sat on pins and needles until mid-March. That year four young men from his high school applied to USAFA, the other three received their appoinments in February. Needless to say, we were very discouraged thinking that meant that all of the slots from our area had to be gone. My son made a final call to admissions a few days before we received the call from our senators office, his counselor said "Son if I were betting on a horse race I would bet on you". So, I know exactly what you are going through, all I can say is that it makes it so much better when the call or letter does come! Good luck to you all!

wow, I got one nomination from my representative, but the others instead of giving additional nominations sent letters saying they would have nominated me but because I don't need additional nominations, they are saving them for other applicants

I got rejected by both of my Senators, one before the interview process even started. You only NEED one, the rest are just icing on the cake.

i got a 3rd nomination too.. i only applied to congressman and one senator, got them both.. then i got one because my school has an honor unit w/ distinction JROTC unit (army); i didnt even have to fill out anything for that, it just showed up one day

It can depend on the state too, but in New Yorks case I think it speak well of you. If you are from a smaller population state the pool of applicants and people you are being selected against is smaller. Some states with strong military connections (Texas, Florida, North & South Carolina, Virginia) have larger applicant pools becuase parents often have military connections, and candidates have grown up around the Military.

Very true ds. My MOC in Texas said they try not to do multiple nominations for one person to ensure the most people can get a chance to enter. Which makes my second nomination from my local rep all the stranger!

Or it just means you're amazing hornet. ;) I got two nominations to the Air Force Academy, one to West Point, and another to Annapolis. If they have room, it can be common to recieve more than one nomination if you're applying to more than one Academy. Like hornet said, if a MOC knows you already have a nomination to the Academy, they don't typically like to give you another one, as that is a potential slot that they could have opened up to someone else. I think the only reason why I got two nominations to the Air Force Academy was that my state senator had not yet been notified that I had recieved my rep's principal nomination to USAFA. Just depends on the circumstance. But congratulations! I agree, it certainly says something about your chances of admission!

On my phone interview with Clinton, they did NOT ask if I had a nomination yet. However, I had an interview in NY City at Schumer's office, and they did ask, so I told them I had one already from my Congressman. They said they won't give me one unless they feel I am extremely more competative than everyone else, and that if I am tied with like the 10th place person and they dont have one, that they'd give it to the other person.

Someone wanted me to post a short resume so here is mine. And the reason why I am shocked at my nominations is that I an NOT an amazing over the top no-brainer candidate.

GPA: 3.84 weighted
Sports: Cross Country/ Track (Varsity team by no varsity letter. i only joined in my Junior year which I ABSOLUTELY regret not joining sooner, so I wasn't that great)
Clubs: President of National Honor Society, Secretary of Italian Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. My NHS is VERY active and I plan and run lots of large community events. In fact within the hour I need to be at a food drive 10am - 5pm.
ExtraCurr.- Civil Air Patrol, currently Chief but when I applied I think my application said Tech. Sgt or Senior Master Sgt.. I'm flight commander and I'm on the Color Guard (and we got 1st place on Long Island yesterday, now we go onto Wing (NY))
I also take flying lessons

I think what helped a lot is I had GREAT recommendations, one from CAP, one from a teacher I had 2 years and he went to Citadel, and a really really good one from my guidance counselor because I've been seeing her since 10th grade about the Academy. She wrote like 1.5 pages for me.

Does the admissions board, when they meet, see the nominations everyone has and from who?

And to add to the resume, I forgot - I work at CVS 10-15 hours a week and I work at a summer camp 40 hours a week for 6 weeks. I am also a member of my church's folk group. I think that's everything... my resume is on my other computer, sorry :-)

just curious, where in new york are you from?

Im from new york too hehe

I am from Long Island. More specifically, I am from Smithtown. My nearest airport is MacArthur.
