if u went to Bishops reception thing i probably met u there

I'm from Long Island too, West Islip. Congratulations on the Color guard competition gglock, are you in Squadron 10 by any chance? I just joined that Squadron about 1 month ago. Thanks for posting your resume, it is really helpful.
One more question, what were your SATs? Thanks for all of the helpful information everyone!

GO Giants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES! I am the flight commander of BRAVO flight. Welcome to the squadron! What's your last name?

My SAT's are as follows. Note, these are only my best scores, and I took the test 3 times.

Math: 670
Verbal: 620
Writing: 670

SAT's are EXTREMELY helpful, especially if you have a low GPA. Strive for at least a 620 math and 620 verbal. The academy likes math, so try to go even higher, like 650 or 660 on math. They don't consider the writing, but I believe they still see it anyway.

Any questions, feel free to ask. Also, be sure to come up to be Tuesday night an introduce yourself, and we can talk. What grade r u in?

620 is well below both the averages in those categories for the Academy, I'd say 700 is more realistic. A high math score with low english can be looked over, a low math with high english is bad juju.

did you take the ACT? i dont know my SAT scores but i know what my ACT's are, composite of 27. math and science both at 28 and english at 24 (man that killed me)....and, what happens to the nominations that i dont choose, because i have one from everyone. Do they go to someone else or are they just forgotten about?

Did you qualify with your SAT scores or did AFA already tell you you're non competitive because of the 24?

I believe the slate goes up with all 10, your WCS would not be added in.

no, im an official candidate and they pretty much ignored the 24, i have a ton of extracurriculars though so that might have helped.

I was deemed competitive over the summer after I applied to SS, and that was with lower SAT scores. I believe both my math and verbal were 620. It wasn't until October when I brought my math to 670. 700 is not average, that's way too high. Check the website again, I believe 620 was the lowest score in the middle 50%.

They can't ignore the 24, it says on the site you will not be competitve, and not eligible with a 24. If you got a 590 on Verbal for SAT than they will take that score, but you need also to get higher than 600 on Math, to be competitive. If you submit both ACT and SAT, the score is based on whichever is higher, my guess since you are saying that you are still comp. you got it for SAT

Remember the EC's are only 20%, but PAR is 60% of the WCS

see, i dont know what my SAT scores are....but that 590 would probably be it then. Are you a candidate? or do you attend the academy?

DS is a candidate with 4 noms(all MOC's + Pres)to AFA only, if you go to your online admissions page, it states what your gpa, sats and acts are in your official file

i have 3 noms to AFA and 1 to Navy...and thanks for that, its a 610...and how long does it to take to be notified that i have been accepted?

They state no later than April 15th, but remember they can give out until right before I day, since as people decline appts., they will move down the list on the slate to the next highest WCS. We're from NC, which state are your from? They told my ds that 90% will go out in March

KY...and thats when i was told too, thats so late because my deadlines for other schools is in March...i just have a feeling that my parents might have to pay a tuition deposit to my "backup" school.

The majority of appointments will be offered in March. You could find out in a variety of ways. Seeing a change in your online app status, getting a call from your congressional source, or recieving a package in the mail. In our daughter case the first sign something was up was a post card from admission about her status. Next day the congressional rep called. They new we had something special planned so even though it was early she had to wait a little while longer for it.

cfa9090: As a parent, I had no problem paying the deposit for my son's civillian school. It's a small price to pay for insurance! Also, with paying the deposit back in October, my son was able to choose housing, be directly admitted to his program and other scholarships. We know that if his USAFA application is denied he's set up well with ROTC in a civillian college.

Also, I bet once you pay your deposit THEN you'll receive your appointment!

i know that as soon as we send it in, that will happen. It would be just my luck.

ds52262: What kind of postcards in the mail? I recieved the "you are now an official candidate" one...are there others?

Good question, I was wondering about that too. My son had been a 'candidate' since they got his transcripts back in the summer. Before Christmas he received the "Official Candidate" postcard. Does anyone know what that means?

The other postcards come after each nom is placed in your records, by now you should have had at least a couple of those stating we have received a nom for you from XXXX. Our last one came last week, about 3 weeks after it showed up on his file. The others showed up within 7-10 days.

As far as official candidate, it means you can compete on the board, because you made their requirements and received at least one nom. They do not send multiples of these cards with ea. nom., just that one.

Our s received that card back in October when he received his presidential, before he had completed his CFA. He completed his file in Dec (15th I think)

I believe it was the "Official Candidate Card", about a week later we got word of the appointment. Be patient if it is meant to be it will happen soon.
