Is a 3rd SAT II necessary if I am not planning to apply to Harvard, Princeton, or Georgetown? (These are very firm plans.) I'm looking at Yale + top LACs. My parents feel that I should take another SAT II; current scores are 800 Lit / 760 Math II. I'm a humanities person, but I hate U.S. history so opted out of APUSH; I'm definitely not a science person, but my dad has a Ph.D. in chemistry and could tutor me if it came to that (will not have any hard science APs, though). I would love to take the French test but I started in French I in 9th grade and I don't feel ready (taking AP senior/next year). Which leaves... what? Trying to remember bio from sophomore year, studying random trivia for World History?

Thoughts, anyone? If I do want a 3rd test, which is easiest to study for?

wow. first of all, GREAT job getting the 800 on SAT Literature. that is the toughest test, and an 800 puts you in the 99th percentile of high school students who are talented at reading/analyzing stuff…especially poetry(which i never get hahha)

i think that the 800 on lit is really a stand out, people don’t usually score that high on lit, it’s usually low 700s if anything and more often 600s

well if you’re gonna take another subject test, make sure you get a very good score, or else it’s not worth it at all. i don’t think it’ll make or break the college’s decision…honestly…but i think harvard and princeton are teh ONLY schools that REQUIRE 3, so unless you’re dead set on those two schools, it doesn’t matter too much if u take another test
what’s your sat score?

i’m taking mathII and physics because i’m looking at engineering schools =]…and i’m just gonna do those two, unless i have some extra time this summer or after ap tests and i really just feel like studying for us history(which i prob won’t even do lol)

If you’re in your third year of French, you could try the SAT II. Take a practice test (with and without listening, since it’s possible you’ll do rather better on one) and see where you stand. If you prepare over the summer, you could definitely take it in October or November.

^ So you think that 3 years of HS French + a month of AP will be enough for a good score (750+) on the SAT II? My friend got a 770 last year, but she had already completed AP French Lang.

I think you can do well on the French SAT II given your background if you’re willing to self-study a bit, yes.

Interesting, thanks for the imput!
