If say one is interested in certain programs that a 3rd tier school is well-known for, should that person attend anyway, despite it being a Tier 3 according to U.S. News? For example, I'm interested (am applying) and would love to attend Oregon State for their sciences, but OSU is 3rd tier, yet they are renowned for their science programs...I think the school would be a good fit plus it is not too expensive for an out of state student...as such, does it matter if the school is ranked low or not?

if you’re happy with it, go for it :)

People who attend the second best public school in their state don’t get judged for it by future employers or schools. Go for it.
