3rd tier

I am waiting to hear from UF, but took a look at this school. It looks beautiful and has everything I want, except that it is ranked as a 3rd tier school. I have been admitted to Univ of AZ and Indiana, but really want a warm climate. I didn't like the area around FSU. Any thoughts aboout this school and it's academic reputation?

Last year UCF was ranked in the US News 4th Tier. They have improved from 4th to 3rd.

Its reputation is one of a school on the rise. It is not “rated” nearly as high as Indiana. What it comes down to is what do you want in a college? If US News ratings are very important to you then you will not be happy at UCF. It does depend on what you want to study as well. My husband is an MIT alum and he was very impressed with what we saw and learned about UCF.

You also have to consider that unless you’re going on to graduate school, it doesn’t make a difference what tier your college is. Just what you personally like.

i wouldn’t get too hung up on rankings. UCF has so much to offer and the campus is very nice. Our son has decided to attend FSU. he also had other choices, some schools ranked much higher. i think what it really gets down to is where you feel most comfortable. even then its hard to decide because you spend such a limited time visiting a campus and its hard to say from a 48 hour experience.

UCF is certainly on the rise. their academic standards for admission are getting increasingly difficult. Each school you mentioned has positives. If you think you know what you want to study, then certainly factor this in to your decision. Indiana has for instance has one of the best business programs around. FSU has Music, UCF hospitality etc. all have good programs in most majors.

UF is also a tremendous university. it certainly has the national ranking recognition and great academic programs. you have a tough decision, but atleast you have all great choices to pick from.
