3rd year engineering student, too hard, switch?

ive always loved math my entire life. currently i am a 3rd year undergrad majoring in aerospace engineering. its been hard but ive been studying a lot to get this far, but last spring i struggled so much in classes like thermo and stuff that im thinking about switching majors to civil engineering or something. my question is, is civil engineering any easier than aerospace? also, after you complete all of the major prep classes(physics,calculus,statics/dynamics,etc) will it keep getting harder and harder? like are all of the major upper division classes always harder than the major preps?i was basically a nerd 24/7 just to get by all of the major preps.

I don’t think that’s a valid reason to make a switch. in fact, why were you in AE at first?

Just saying this from a student point of view:
life will always get harder and harder. You may get around this time, but two years from now, what are you going to do?

Maybe it is time to think hard on what exactly went wrong. I mean if you are studying everyday and really have a tough time, maybe engineering major isn’t for you. Maybe an applied math? I guess you are now a rising junior, right?

Love the subject, and try your best. Tell us about your study habit. Tell us a class that you struggled, tell us why and describe how you managed to pass that course. Did you think it was because of the curve, or what?

i dont know why i picked AE, i just know i want to go into some sort of engineering field other than computers. both of my parents are engineers so it seems like the path i should follow plus im pretty good at math/physics. and i may have exaggerated when i say i study 24/7, maybe like 3-4 hours a day everyday and get around a B+ avg. i loved all the major prep classes like physics 1-3, calc1-3 diffeq statics and all that, maybe the major courses in aerospace is no longer interesting so i dont learn as quickly. i just wanted some info from some people that may have finished undergrad in AE/ME or someone that was in my shoes and ended up switching to civil or something. i just want to know about the major courses vs the major prep courses and how hard its going to get. i struggled in thermo, i got a D- but with the curve i got a C- which still requires a retake since its below a 2.0 grade(my first class that i am going to have to ever retake). i was just wondering what are the hardest classes that most engineers had to take for undergrad or is thermo one of the hardest ones?

The classes other students I know have the most trouble with are thermodynamics, statics, and electrical systems. Those are for ME though. If you’re having trouble with the upper division, maybe engineering isn’t for you? That is something only you can answer. You can probably look into applied mathematics.

Aerospace Engineering gets much easier after the first two years, it would be a shame to switch at this point. If you can get past thermo, it’s all downhill from there. I found the practical applications the last two years to be much more enjoyable than all the theoretical stuff the first two years and my GPA went way up as a result (in fact, I think I had close to a 4.0 the last two semesters, whereas the first year or two I was under 3.0).

If you decide you want to switch do it while you’re still in school. It gets much tougher if you change your mind later.
