4.0 UCLA Buz Econ rejected

As the title explains, I was rejected from the Business Economics major with a 4.0 GPA…
I called admissions to figure out where I went wrong, and the guy explained to me that in order to get the competitive edge, I needed to complete Calculus 2 by the Fall semester (I’m currently taking it).
He didn’t say it explicitly, but pretty much implied that had I had Calculus 2 done in the Fall, I would have gotten in…

Do you guys think that I have any chance at winning an appeal, or should I just move on?

I can think of 3-4 applicants (including myself) that did not have Calc 2 done. I definitely think you should appeal, just SIR to another school as a backup. Your GPA is higher than mine. I was accepted into UCLA biz econ & waitlisted UCI biz admin. I think with how competitive UCI, UCLA, & UCB are, even if you’re a stellar student it’s still a toss up for getting into all 3. Did you apply to UCI & UCB?

I did apply to UCI and UCB. I actually got into UCI Business Administration with Regent’s scholarship.

We’ll find out about UCB tomorrow, but I don’t think I’ll get in because I didn’t complete the required English class properly

@enpz45

I don’t know what you have going on or how your essays were. Based on what you’re saying, your grades and course load could not have held you down. I think my GPA was in the 3.7-3.85 range but I had A LOT of extra curricular stuff going for me and I am underrepresented in multiple demographics. If I were you I would go the extra curricular route/intangibles route vs the I got an A in Calc 2 route. Still bring up the Calc 2, but don’t focus on it.

maybe your essays didn’t show something that other people with lesser GPA’s showed? what did you write about for your essays? did you ever have to face any adversities?

@TransferLA2017 sure i would appeal, if that is what they implied. I know students who got rejected from UCSB because they had not completed stats by fall, then got in after the appeal. It’s worth a shot.
