i am currently a junior and i plan to apply for binding early admission to northwestern university. right now i don't have all my stats but on a general level could anyone chance me?
i really screwed up my freshman year and i've been working to dig myself out of the hole and the heighest gpa i've been able to get is a 4.28 weighted
gpa: 4.28 weighted
class rank: 40/1400 which puts me in the top 5% of my class
ACT: 33
i also have a strong background of volunteer work, extracurrics, and i hope to have a strong application.

as of now the only thing i feel that will hinder me is my gpa...do i have a good chance? especially for early decision

You should have a good shot.

What is your UW GPA? Because if it is under a 3.5 then your chances aren't looking so good. That being said, try taking out the non-core classes (gym, band, etc.) and recalculating your GPA. If it turns out that it is higher, than you have a better shot because most colleges will recalculate your GPA. Did you take the SAT? SAT IIs?

post your SATs here first

4.28 is great weighted, no problem for admission (unless your unweighted GPA is under 3.5). For reference, my 2 friends got into Northwestern for fall '08 with these stats:
2010 SAT, 3.92 Weighted GPA
2010 SAT, 4.1 Weighted GPA
Granted, they are from Alaska so I don't know if that helped some also.
Your ACT's are great and in the upper range for Northwestern. I'd say that if you applied early decision you have a very good chance of getting in

And the OP doesn't need to post SAT's. ACT's are fine, and a 33 is equivalent to about a 2200 on the SAT's

Is this 4.28 weighted GPA on a 4-point scale?

To fa-la-la-lena:
I think that at Northwestern geographic diversity might have been advantageous to your friends, but I would agree that with a 4.28 the OP has a great shot. The 33 ACT is nice as well, and the class rank is also helpful.

To OP:
Define strong ECs...
Oftentimes people think that they have amazing ECs and find themselves in need of better ones.
