I was wondering if my schedule for junior year is too much. I have taken regular biology and got a 103% in the class (with extra credit) and I’m taking honors chemistry this year with a 98 in the class right now. My school has 7 period a day and most people have at least 1 free period. I have not had a free period freshmen or sophomore year, and I doubled up on sciences with ecology and Honors Chemistry this year.
This is what I’m planning to take junior year. Is it doable?
Ap macro/micro
Ap engligh 11
AP BIO
AP CHEM
Analysis/ pre-calc
Us history
Spanish 3
Is it doable? Well, only you (and perhaps your parents and GC) know your abilities The workload of an AP class is very dependent upon the teacher, so you might want to ask current students at your school.
If you want to double up on science, you’d be better off taking physics and pushing either AP Chem or Bio to senior year. I’d also do APUSH in place of regular USH.
Seeing as OP stated that they are extremely strong in both biology and chemistry, I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a bad idea to take both. However, for AP Chem, you must have an understanding of the processes behind everything that occurs in chemistry. Simply being able to memorize formulas isn’t enough, and will lead you to a bad grade in the class.
I’m taking 4 APs (including two sciences) this year, my junior year, and I find it perfectly manageable. However, make sure you’re interested in all the courses, because otherwise it becomes extremely dull.
APUSH is a worthwhile course but it’s also a lot of work.
OP, it’s hard for people on the internet to evaluate whether your schedule is do-able because we don’t know what kind of student you are or how much time your ECs require. I suggest you talk to students at your school who know you and the demands of the AP classes at your particular school. As far as whether it’s do-able, sure, plenty of students take schedules like that. The question is whether it’s a good idea for you to do it, and that’s hard for us to answer. From what you have told us, I would say it will be fine as long as you expect a lot of hard work.
