I'm looking at a schedule for next semester, and right now it's looking like I might have 4 classes, each 50 minutes long, in a row. My first class would start at 8:30, and the last would get out at 12:20. They're all MWF which means I wouldn't have classes Tuesday and Thursday. My main concern, though, is if 4 classes in a row might be too much on my brain. Anyone else have experience with something like this? Any advice for me? I'd like to do it, but is it too wacky?

So long as you’ve got enough time to get from one class to the next, that doesn’t sound too bad. It’s only a 4 hour block.

The 4 classes would be in 3 buildings. Each building is visible from the other. Indeed the last two classes are even in the same room.

I did this my junior year. 2 classes back to back, 1 hour break, 2 classes back to back. Mine were 2 hours long each. At the end of my last one, I had a headache. Usually. Bring snacks and water. Sit near the door and take bathroom breaks. It’ll help. However, doing it this way, it is very easy to procrastinate on the days you have off.

I’ve done this before, usually with Tues/Thurs class that are 1.5 hours each with 4-5 classes in a row. It only really sucks if you have midterms and/or finals on the same day. Just make sure that you check the dates so that you can plan ahead and have enough time to study for multiple exams, if you have them. Other than that, should be fine.

I commute 90 minutes each way to college so I take all my classes Tues and Thurs, 5 in a row, hour and 15 minutes each. It’s a pain to have multiple tests in one day but other than that it’s ok. Good to get it all over with and get home.

50 minute classes are not bad. I had two 75 minute classes and then a 150 minute class in a row, then 30 minutes until my next 75 minute class.

I think this is totally doable. I did this last semester. You’ll also find that your classes will sometimes get out early, which will leave you with time to go get a coffee or go stretch your legs.

Also, BRING FOOD! My biggest problem was that I would get so, so hungry. I grew to love granola and nutrition bars, and I also made coffee in my dorm and brought it to class in a travel mug. This helped curved my hunger for the first class. I’d eat a snack after the second class, sometimes eat another right before the fourth one, and then pig out for lunch lol. It totally made me appreciate my mealtimes more.

In regards to school stuff, you WILL have tests and papers on the same day, but it’s not a big deal. I had two midterms on one day, and I did great on both. You’re already set up to be in an intense school mode, so it almost kind of helps. Plus you have all day Tuesday and Thursday to study and write, so that helps balance it.

Overall, just make sure to pace yourself. You’ve done long days of classes before in high school, and this is still half of what you once did. Some classes last three hours long, so it’s like you just have one class with a lot of breaks and subject changes.

Good luck!

No sweat. I think you’ll be alright. You took on more in high school.
