Is 4 classes too much to take in one quarter.
Im taking 2 GE's, Eng Comp 3, and a Math

What are the GEs? and your major?

dont mean to hijack the thread but is this too much
math 31a
physics 10
hist 1a
french 41

thanks

oh and my major is either math or history not sure yet

my major is math, my GEs are Desma 10 and Solar Systems and Planets (or something like that with McKeegan)

english comp 3 wont be an issue. if its too much drop either desma 10 or ssp by 4th week
duckedtape - same thing for you. drop one of the four classes by fourth. if youre taking 1a with philips - dont. hes insanely dry and the material sucks as well.

duckedtape- Fall of my Freshmen quarter I took French 41 and History 1a. But I paired it with a GE cluster (global environment). The workload I had was def doable for a Freshmen, since 41/1A aren't so bad, but I think in 41 we had 2 essays (probably 5 pages), and 1A there were 2 or 3 small ones maybe.

Now pairing them with math and physics...no clue how that will turn out. 4 is a bit much for a Freshmen. I think if I had had an extra class I would have been stressed out. But assuming they are introduction courses they couldn't be much worse than the cluster class (which had tons of reading).

Physics 10 should be easy, seeing there aren't any calculations, just definitions of physics terms...

Can you tell me more about the global environment cluster? Did you like it? How many essays did you have per quarter?

Global Environment was pretty fun. I can't remember exactly how many essays it was but they sort of built them up in size. I think first quarter you write like 3 but the first two were on the same article I believed and weren't very long and I think the 3rd was comparing two sets or articles. Then 2nd quarter there is a research paper (which was really open ended). I wrote mine on bats. I don't think that was very long, and you have like all quarter to work on it. Then your seminar will of course have a research paper (which one you take determines the length), but even that was maybe only 7 pages. My seminar also had a weekly one page assignment.

So overall, there is writing, but it's usually pretty easy. There is a lot of reading. I used to keep up with it, but by the end I wouldn't read until right before the midterm/final.

The cluster has four topics to go with the four profs (each half a quarter). One was like basic ecology stuff, one was on urbanization (like sprawl), one on water and one on air. Honestly the ecology was the best because it's just facts and really straight forward. Air pollution went completely over everyone's head. The other two weren't bad.

Plus we went on field trips, which was neat. They ranged from walks around campus, going to the LA river, a trip to Disneyland (no rides...well one ride), and like a water reclamation site. And those weren't all of them. I did the Disney one and I went up into the hills to look at chaparral.

Thanks for such a thorough response :)

thanks guys
thats why I took physics 10 and french 41 because I heard that they were one of the easier ge's

My advice, don't take more than 3 classes fall of freshman year. You want time to do random ****, ie rush/pledge/get super drunk often/ w.e. Of course, fiat luxes don't factor into this though.

With that being said, both of your schedules seem doable, but it will just suck up a lot of your sexy time.

dont worry
I can tape physics equations on the ceiling while she saves a horse and rides a cowboy and I am on my back.

Physics 10 is ridiculously easy if you have any background with physics. People can just use equations blindly and plug in numbers to get the final answer.

I don't think the workload between 3 and 4 classes have much correlation to how much time you'll have fun, or how many opportunities you'll have. If you really want to have fun, you'll be a go-getter and skip classes at will.

Even if you take the 4 classes, you'll be fine. You'll have lots of time if you are bright.

I had to read this one like three times over to get what he was trying to be all witty about. Then I had to gag because I picture duckedtape as like, some guy with the head of the AFLAC duck.

Aflac Aflac

desma 10 ftw
