4 GB of ram an over kill? (will 2 gb do it?)

i do believe the gateway has PCI E slots because when i tried to customize the computer it had selections with graphic cards that use the PCI E slots.

and since when did AGP x8 disappear? lol....

my budget is $2600
another reason i want the gateway is because it also comes with a 24 inch HD widescreen 1080p monitor!!!

ps: i mean NVIDIA? GeForce? 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 is a PCI-E card right?
if a computer supports the 7900 GT, that means it has to have PCI-E slots?

oh wait i just found out that the gateway has the following
Expansion Slots: (3) PCI expansion slots, (1) PCI-E x4 expansion slot, (1) PCI-E x16 expansion slot

so, is that good enough for future expansion?

Do you want dual cards? then you want 2 Pci-e x16 slots. but 1 card should be enough

i'm a gamer counter strike 1.6 (i know it doesnt use much ram)

United 5
sponsored by intel

i play PS2 on my computer. very fast + full antialiasing + bilinear filtering

intel pent core 2 extreme
2 gb pny
geforce 8000 something

u DONT need 4 gb, waste of money.

Build it urself,

oh wow porkey thanks
hmm i know that with 2 GB of ram, i'd be better off spending extra on a graphics card other than more ram... right?

a side question, with "SLI" or "CROSSFIRE", alll you need is 2 PCI-E slots?!

^^ u'll need radeon Xpress "XXX" chipsets to run crossfire

wait then what about that other person telling me about how i need 2 pci express for SLI
is that all what a sli motherboard is?

For the last time, yes.

2xPCIe slot on SLI ready chipset e.g. nForce 680i SLI

well, does that mean that ANY motherboard with 2xPCI-E is sli ready?
thats awesome

You just don't learn, do you?

just buy what i told u. pay one techni guy to wind it up then u'll have 1 perfect rig - no need to go for gateway or anything.

^^'n don forget to add some DVDburners, mice and keyboards.

ur processor won't even run the entire 4 GB probably.

Zyklon, all the examples you guys have been giving me are "oh if you wanna do 2x nvidia graphics card then you need the sli mother board with 2x PCI-E"
if you dont want to help me you dont have to waste your breath replying.
not everyone is that updated with the computer scene

and porkey, i would think of putting it all together myself and such but im going away for college and theres no warranty in case it breaks and i've had self built computers break on me before.... :(

and what's that about processor wont even run the 4 GB? isn't the 4mb casche 2.4 Ghz core 2 duo pretty decent?

this one is E6600 it runs cool consuming less power. If ur motherboard allows then u can overclock it with stock heatsink too n that also without any prob., if ur room is cool enuf. With add. heat-sink+air or with water-cooling u can push this one up to 3100mhz

FALSE

is chanman's comment true?

thanks a lot for the recommandation list though, i have already written it down and in 2 month, i will look em up again and finally decide what i will do

The problem with running 4GB of memory is that the marginal returns on the extra RAM are very very low. You're not going to see a huge jump in performance. In fact, you'll likely see better performance with two 1GB DIMMs than one 2GB DIMM due to duel channel characteristics of a lot of the current mobos.

The money is better spent on a good video card or a good hard drive.

It always amazes me how many people run beefed up rigs on crappy mobos and slow HDs then wonder why their performance isn't quite what they expected.
