It seems as if majoring in 3-4 things is normal. Why is it that WashU students have so many majors?

Well I don't think a lot of people have 3-4 majors (although I have 3), but most do double major and minor. This is simply because WashU's cirriculum is so flexible. It is easy to take whatever classes you want, in whatever school you want so students end up being able to double major in two completely different fields and still graduate in 4 yrs.

I'm aiming for 3.

Well, yeah, partially the flexible curriculum, but also because we're workaholics. Haha, not really. Okay, maybe really.

Johnnydr and Jeffwun, what are you planning to major in?

My majors are:

Secondary Education
Mathematics
Business Administration (Human Resources/Organizational Behaviour but I might switch to Managerical Econo. and Strategy).

Business, Political Science, Film.

Chances are one or two are going to drop to minors....or I might just drop one of my majors.

Business is practical. Political Science is a passion/hobby. Film is a medium to continue my artistic creativity (or lack thereof).

That said, if I were to drop a major, it would be business. Not sure I fit in with the suit and tie crowd.

What about you melanie?

Well, I'm pretty sure I want an English major, but I'm not sure what I want to combine it with. I was thinking about a minor in Spanish with a second minor in International and Area Studies (with a focus on Latin America). Then again, I have no idea why I'd minor in those things (uh, I like Spanish, I guess) or what I would ever do with them. I'll probably teach eventually?

I'm so jealous of everyone's focus and direction and the such. I have no idea what I'm doingggg.

"I'm so jealous of everyone's focus and direction and the such. "

Uhhhh.....right....

I seem so focused...

3-4 majors? Haha, Im sorry, but thats not as common as people like to make it out to be. Most freshmans start out believing they can get 3 majors, ive actually only heard of one person attempting 4 majors. Especially if they are premed, most end up with one major, and or a minor and few have double majors. Most people who study here end up with a double major if they look for more than one major but they also take a heavier coarseload and when I say heavier, I mean heavier. It also depends on what major, Anthro majors have a shorter list of requirements than say do Biology. But as pointed out, most freshman do start out believing they want 3 majors, but after awhile, most figure out its not only not good for social life, but also many get bogged down and do not do well in their classes since they are splitting their focus in 3 different areas every semester. I would say three max for you crazy people, but four, okay try, but go buy some sleeping pills and say goodbye to your friends. Haha well its not that bad im sure, but you can only study so much. Anyways good luck! O btw, minors you can pile on!
