that is all
go 'hoos

well said.
Road to Atlanta begins with Albany...

Here's an interesting article from the New York Times about "Which House Members' Alma Maters are in the NCAA Hunt".

Though most of them went to the Law School, UVA has the 2nd largest showing of Congressmen and Senators with 14 graduates in Capitol Hill.

They don't deserve the fourth seed.

Why not, jps? UVA stayed in the top of the ACC polls all season. I'll be rooting for them!!!!

UVA doesn't have a very good bball team. they'll get knocked out 2nd round. they def don't deserve a 4 spot. They just arent of that calibur this year

VCU wasn't supposed to have a stellar team this year and knocked off Duke! I've watched UVA play terrific games and games thinking why they even bothered? Most of their exciting games were at home. Hoping they make it through round two......but will concede...doubtful to get out of second round.

UVA is a good team, and I like them a lot. They have a nice back court with a possible second round pick in Reynolds. Teams with excellent guards tend to do extremely well in the college ball. But outside of Reynolds, who is a fringe NBA player, they have zero NBA talent. The talent disparity from them and the elites is big. GMU, who went to the final four because of their chemistry and heart, was able to overcome this flaw. Teams like that, however, are extremely rare. Final four type teams are usually full of guys like Richard Hamilton, Vince Carter, Carmelo Anthony, Sampson, Okafor, and etc.

The reason I don't think they should be a fourth seed is because of their schedule. Their RPI is 55, and their SOS is 49. On top of that, they have an away from home record of 3-9 and they didn't even win one game in the ACC tournament. I know UVA finished in second place in the ACC, which is arguably the best conference in the NCAA. But that fact is misleading, because they benefited from an easy, unbalanced schedule. Teams that usually get high seeds do very well in their tournament and tend to excel on the road against elite competition. UVA didn't do that.

Syracuse compares very favorably against UVA. Their SOS and RPI was higher then UVA, but 'cuse couldn't even get in the tournament, let alone get a high seed.

From reading your first couple of sentences, I think you're a little bit confused.

Zero NBA talent besides Reynolds? Look up a guy named Sean Singletary. He's got some talent.

The RPI is an interesting metric, but ours is without doubt dragged down by the goose egg dropped in Puerto Rico. Subtract those games and RPI shoots way up. SOS is also an interesting metric, but it doesn't seem to correlate well with a team's success during the season or its seeding in the tournament. Check out Sagarin's calculations:

It's interesting that UVA is 5-1 against Sagarin top 25 teams and 8-4 against Sagarin top 50 teams. Not bad.

I agree that a four seed was a bit of a surprise, but it wasn't entirely out of the question. I also agree that the frontcourt is a huge weakness. In general, though, you don't seem to be too familiar with UVA basketball. Who do you root for?

UVA will beat the Rocky top... I put them in my Final Four.

^ lol, I have them losing to the Vols... UVA is too inconsistent and Tenn. just droped 121 on Long Beach State
but I think its safe to say that neither are going to get past Ohio State

Yeah, I forgot about Sean, but I doubt he would ever be an impact player in the NBA though. He is currently projected as a mid second round pick in a guard weak draft. This draft is heralded as one of the deepest though. Now compare that with Florida who has three lotto picks.

I don't have any affiliation with UA, but i still root for them. I've always liked Lute Olson and have been rooting for them since grade school. Plus, that school has produced my favorite basketball player.

Eh, I guess you can take everything I say with a grain of salt. Outside of March, the only time I really watch college ball is to watch all of the big time prospects-- Oden, Durant, and Wright. Next year I'll probably just follow Rose and Mayo.

The RPI is really only significant if you're a team on the bubble. For a team that shares first place in the regular season ACC, and beat every ACC team at least once except for a couple, it doesn't really matter. Maryland is actually lower than Duke on the RPI and has a lower SOS, but they're still a 4 seed and Duke (was) a 6 seed. How do RPI or SOS matter there?

I think Syracuse got shafted, but that's what happens when you have a tournament that throws in a lot of crappy conference champions like Albany. Florida State had a 41 RPI ( higher than Virginia, Syracuse, and many other teams in the tournament), had the 20th ranked SOS, had wins over Florida, VT, Duke, had no bad losses (only out of conference losses were to Pitt and Wisconsin), and still didn't make it. RPI and SOS didn't do crap for them there.

Hannanq, it's possible, but Tennessee is actually very similar to us. They use guards a lot, and can be very inconsistent in their own conference (again, like us). They dropped a bomb on Florida near the end of the season (that game was total domination if you watched it), but they also have losses to teams like LSU and South Carolina in the latter half in the season that weren't very close. I think it'll be a fun game to watch.

I just wanted to say that it doesn't really matter where Singletary is projected to go in the NBA draft. He can dominate the college game, and he has so much intensity, remember the look at the Duke game?

And plus Gilbert Arenas wasn't even a 1st round selection and he is dominating the NBA, very similiar player to Sean.

Lets go Hoos

u guys ruined my bracket a bit but i still love you guys and i still love singletary

Tough loss :(

bad day for all Wahoo fans.

...but the only upside for me is that the next Wahoo basketball game i'll watch will be as a student! can't wait!

amen

(10 char)

I feel sorry for Reynolds more than anything.
