Because of GRE scores or because it's your loss if you try and tackle grad school when you know you just barely made it out of undergrad?

what exactly do u go through after undergrad to get phD? is phD harder for majors like biology/medicine/econ than un-impacted majors like ...psychology or hebrew? how long does it take to get phD from the time of high school graduation? is it possible to like get phD in undergrad?

how important is grades for lower division courses in terms of grad school and jobs?

nebcat:

That's what I always thought about grades in college. As long as you are eligible to re-enroll, I think that you are doing fine. I think a 2.5 GPA or higher is good if you want to get into Grad School (that's what it is here at UTEP). If you want to get into a more prestigious GRAD school, then you should aim higher.

I am not saying that grades aren't important, I just think they are less important than having a good interview. If the employer doesn't like the way your interview goes, they won't hire you (no matter what GPA you have). I think it doesn't even matter what job experience you have. You can come out of college not having worked a day in your life and you could get a job over someone who worked during college. I learned in communications class that the interview is the most important part.

On a side note, I just want to share what one professor mentioned to me last semester. He said that there is so much coruption in schools. He said that grades don't tell the whole story. I agree with him 100%. Getting an A in a class doesn't mean you know more than someone who got a C. The person who got an A might have cheated, etc. I am not saying that this is always the case; I am saying that it happens.

So to sum it all up, getting good grades won't land you a job. The employer doesn't know anything about the professors you had, whether you cheated, etc. If you have a good interview, most likely you will land the job.

I can say that that's not necessarily true about grades not mattering for employment.

I know that the companies I will be applying for have a 3.3 GPA MINIMUM, and they DO check.
If you don't have that, they won't interview you, unless it's a extremely unique case...but even then, they still probably wouldn't even interview.

For the first job out of school it will usually matter, but beyond that, GPA means nothing.
