4 Year Foreign language?

Hey,
Next years my senior year and I really want to drop my foreign language (in which I have already reached the fourth year equivalent "french 4")) to pursue something else (maybe double up in math with AP STAT or take Organic Chem). However, I've heard that some schools REQUIRE that you take 4 years of foreign language.

For schools that DO have this policy, do you think reaching French 4 is the same thing as taking 4 years of french? (note: french 4 is 1 year below AP FRENCH at my school)

Can you guys tell me which schools you've heard of that have this policy?
I know many schools say they suggest 4 years, but are there any schools that have a stricter policy regarding what courses you need in HS?

Specifically in the IVIES/Top ranked schools.

Thanks,
CF

When schools recommend/require you to take 4 years of a foreign language, it’s because it usually takes that long for a high school student to develop any level of proficiency. If you have taken already French 4 as a junior, you have already reached that level and you’ll be fine.

If you still have concerns, you might consider taking the SAT subject test in French to further establish your proficiency in a foreign language.

Schools want you to also challenge yourself. If you take a challenging course in place of a language I doubt colleges will mind. (That is what I did).
