4 years foreign language requirement

Harvard says they want 4 years of a foreign language…
isnt that a bit ridiculous? (IMO), i have 3, though… would that really be detrimental or anything, and which other schools require 4?

i know its 3 for stanford.

anyone know?

Don't worry about it... not a make or break point. But be sure that you're strong is some academic area and your transcript shows that.

It's not that ridiculous considering theyre a top notch college. New York state high schools REQUIRES three, so pushing it to four is logical.

ehh..
well in my case its almost impossible to fit in 4 years due to our weird scheduling =( --and plus the heavy propensity towards sciences

Well, I was thinking of applying to Harvard, but I only have 3 years of foreign language (Latin). I can't take four, because my school doesn't offer Latin 4 anymore.

They did offer up to AP Latin when I signed up freshman year, but our brilliant teacher left, and now we're stuck with the most craptastic Latin instructor, who only teaches up to Latin 3.

just start a new language. i did four years of spanish and three of latin

craptastic should be included in a new language for sure lol. My school offers AP spanish but I dont like spanish (no harvard for me anyway)...I dont like spanish anyway I want to learn german but none at my school

I'm in the same situation. This high school I'm in doesn't have any Latin. Last year as a freshman I took Latin. Currently as a sophmore I took Spanish at this new high school. --; By senior year I'm going to be taking Spanish III. So there's no way I could get into Spanish IV. :/

i hope its not a REQUIREMENT and just a STRONG RECOMMEDNATION or something.

same here. :]
