"4 years of foreign language recommended" - what about 3?

So how do top colleges look upon taking only three years of a language? How much could it hurt, if at all?

I personally will not be continuing with french this fall due to scheduling issues and the fact that other classes interested me more...:D

'Due to scheduling issues' is better than another reason.

But my college counselor NEVER lets anyone drop foreign language, even though our requirement is only 2 years. NEVER. Dropping things is a bad sign. Unless you're doubling up on science or advanced math courses there's really no reason to drop French.

Top colleges don't care how long it took you during HS as long as you get through AP which lots in my HS class did soph year. They want to see profeciency.
