4 Years of Foreing Language?

So, I am sign up for AP Spanish Lit. this year and I do not really want to take it. Mostly because I see myself using this class to take something that is more interesting and helpful in the future to me.

Would colleges (MIT, Ivies, Stanford, colleges in general) look down upon my not taking 4 years of foreign language?

I want to take AP Environmental Science instead.

I appreciate the help.

Did you already take AP Spanish Language?

Have you already taken AP Spanish Lang? If so, that's more than enough language for any college.

MIT probably won't care spanish vs enviro because both are basically humanities classes. Ivies and Stanford might prefer spanish just because it is a core class. However, one class will not make or break an application.

It all depends on the school you are applying too. Just check their policies on Science and Language requirements. Remember, recommended generally means required, so don't be fooled.

Yes I took AP Spanish Lang. already. Pretty disappointed with my score...

In that case, take Enviro if you really want to. Colleges will be fine with the fact that you have less than 4 years if you've already made it to most schools' top level.

well, don't colleges (at least ives?) look at what courses your school offers and what other students who apply took? They will see that I "dropped" Spanish lit.

AP Spanish Lit > AP Enivron Sci

I know you don't want to, but from a strictly college-admissions perspective, you really should.

From what I've seen in admissions, it's only really HYPS that care if you max out on all core subjects. Even then, there are always exceptions. If you are interested in science or the environment then it looks better to have APES.

You will never get rejected or accepted to a college for choosing between two AP courses. AP Spanish might look a little better and help you a little bit, but it won't make up for any big holes in your app and no adcom will say "well he was perfect, but didn't take AP SPanish."

take environmental science for the love of pokemon. you don't even have to ask...
