4 Years of French vs. 12 Class Ranks

my decision for sophomore year was either to get a higher class rank by taking an ap class instead of honors french 4 , which i got an a- in, or not take 4 years of french (ap included which is what im taking this year) or take another ap, such as ap euro or ap gov to raise my class rank by an estimated 10-12....was the 4 years of french a smart choice? i know 4 years of language looks pretty good, but even more so than 10 class ranks?

Class ranks are far more important. But, you can’t know for sure that you’ll really move up that far in class rank, whereas you can be sure which classes you’ll have taken. It’s best to take the most challenging classes available and to get straight As in all of them.

Actually speaking French (or any other foreign language) is an incredibly valuable asset for your life. Like, valuable. Four years does not make you fluent. The longer you take French, the better it will be for your life, not just for college admissions. Besides, AP US government will not look more rigorous than French 4 honors (excuse me if the AP government class in question is comparative government).
