What do colleges mean when they say that they recommend 4 years of math? Say Calculus is what seniors are supposed to take, but I took it as a junior and due to certain circumstances (coughscheduleconflictscough) cannot take AP Stats as a senior. It doesn't matter right? It still counts as 4 year of math?

No, it should not matter since it’s not really your fault anyways that you didn’t take a math your senior year. Though you might want to do something so that you don’t become out of practice once you get to college if you need to take math again.

Are we talking UCSC or HYPS? Top colleges will expect you to havr fully challengd yourself. Many will go on to take college level linear algebra and MV calc if shooting for top colleges. Calc is fine for 98% of schools.
