for top colleges that "recommend" 4 years of a language.... would it be horrible to only take 3 years? i'm terrible at french and i really wanna drop ap french senior year, to take another ap course. is this something colleges would look down upon?

ah yes i have this same question! i skipped into ap french but i want to drop it next year.

i'm curious as well

bump
plz!!

Yeah, what if you're at the fourth year level but haven't taken four years...

I think they are understanding. Remember it is "recommended" not required. As for myself, my school only went to French 3 (Thank God!) but I also took a year of Latin. I would have done another year of latin but my school no longer offered it so I didnt.

I have known a number of kids (including my own) with 3 years of foreign language get into top schools that recommended 4 years. You probably don't want to have many other weaknesses in your app, though.
