IF I choose to attend a UC this fall, I will start with 40 credits from AP exams. Is that sophomore status?

45 is sophomore status.

close haha

Tight, I could transfer after my first year then right? Since you transfer as a Junior.

AP credits can be used to satisfy general educaiton requirements and/or IGETC, your CCC can tell more about how the credits can be used.

Even if you had sophomore status (45 units) by Fall, it’s not going to be a big help until you register for Winter. As a new student, you won’t register for classes until you attend summer orientation, and by that time, everyone else will have registered. BUT, in your second quarter, you will find that sophomore status can help you get classes that you want/need. And your AP credits won’t count towards your unit cap, so you don’t have to worry about that.
