we have a bit over a month left till the penn decisions come out..as well as most of the other schools..

i know it's too late to do anything about my app, but just wondering what people here on CC think..

I had a pretty low gpa, especially compared to most people applying to the ivies/other tier 1 schools. a lot of it has to do with the kind of classes I take and the overall rigor of my high school. although my school is not one of those old famous privates in the northeast, hopefully my school profile along with my SSR helps out a bit..

my sat scored superscored was around 2300, with three subject tests all in the 700s. pretty good EC's - on a scale of 1-10 i'd give myself around an 8.

i had a unique volunteer experience, although I prefer not to share it online (pm me if you'd like to know.. but only if you can give a decent opinion regarding this.. and my question =)) and i wrote my essay about this experience.

great teacher recs and counselor rec. pretty good why penn essay. the only thing that truly worries me is my gpa, uw around 3.5 and weighted around 3.85 and that would include my 1st term grades of this year.

haven't been offered an interview yet. ..don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, as my interviews so far have been either very good or miserable.

what do you guys think of my shot at penn?
how do unique experiences (as they contribute to the overall diversity of the student body) and great essays play a role in admission decisions?

Ok gashergina, we are like, the SAME person. No joke. My stats and all are just about the same level as yours. So I feel ya.

Yeah, Penn is not a realistic dream for me, so I’m expecting a rejection.

Anyway, supposedly “not getting an interview has no bearing” on our standings as applicants…but come on! I know quite a few kids from my school who applied to Penn, all with excellent stats (higher than mine at least GPA-wise), and they got interviews.

I know people who got interviews too… They say it’s a random procedure but I’m wondering if people who live literally a block away from have been contacted, why haven’t I been asked for an interview?!

My interviewer said that they try to offer interviews to all the students who apply to UPenn from one school. But I think that may be different for Wharton. The only student at my school who didn’t get an interview was the one who applied to Wharton.

Anyway! Don’t worry about it. It depends on your area, so keep that in mind.

I also live in the OC. I’m surprised I haven’t been contacted actually, I thought this area would have many, if not one of the most number of alumni

I live in Philly and there are tons of alumni. As far as ED went, 15 people from my applied and only about 3/5ths of them got interviews. Loads more (20+) applied for RD and only a little more than half got called for interviews so far.

Don’t feel like you’re out of the loop just because you didn’t receive an interview. I had 2 friends from school apply to Wharton ED along with me (we were the only 3 in my school applying Wharton ED); I got an interview, but neither of those two did. We all got accepted.
