40 Year Swim

^^^^^
I think it was the same when I was at the academy. I probably got the years mixed up. It's hard to remember everything after 30 years.

We also had some basic swimming during plebe summer.

My 2/C did the 40 year swim last semester and after the swim, his PE switched to a personal conditioning/health class. Will he have to do it again next year?

oops, question answered.

yes and PFOREX

One lap the long way is exactly 50M. So at 1000m swim would be 20 laps. I swim competitively on the national level so we race 50m (called Long Course, as opposed to Short Course) alot.

Oh, and a lap would be just going down. Going Down and back is 2 laps, 100m.

normally a lap is just going down... but for the purposes of the 40 year, a lap is basically down and back...
10 laps=60
12 laps=70
14 laps=80
16 laps=90
18 laps=max

Additionally, if you are over 3/4 of a lap when time is called, you get credit for that lap.

To clarify, if a swimmer has swam down a length and is over half-way on the returning length, the swimmer gets credit for the lap.

Exactly right. That's what I was straining for on that last lap: to get out from under the overhang over the pool, which they were using as the halfway point.

My arms have NEVER burned like they did that day on that lap.

some things never change!
