400 level vlpa class

Hello. Im going to be a freshman this year and am considered taking ENG 422 as a vlpa classs, seeing that it sounded interesting. Apparently the average gpa for the class is 3.9(myedu), but its a 400 level class. I'm not an english major. Should I take it or just look for another class?

Hi. I am a junior at UW - not an English major, but I thought I would reply anyways. The numbering of UW courses really can go either way. Many times a 400 level class would have higher expectations/more expectations that a 100 or 200 level class, but sometimes they really aren’t too hard, despite the intimidatingly high course number. It appears the professor has some solid reviews on Rate My Professors ([PaulRemley - University of Washington - RateMyProfessors.com](Paul Remley at University of Washington | Rate My Professors)), and most reviewers did not find him to be too hard, so I would recommend signing up for the class, waiting to buy the textbooks (or buy them from somewhere with a good return policy), and then go to the first class session. Once you meet the professor and get the syllabus you should have a better idea of if this class is right for you. If it isn’t, it is pretty easy to find a different class to take in the first week. So many people are dropping classes and changing schedules at that point, that lots of things open up. HTH!

Also wanted to add, not sure about your mindset, but only sign up for the class if it interests you. Don’t let the 3.9 GPA be what sways you. You can never guarantee that the grading really is going to be that generous!
