4000 applied Oct 1 - how many got in?

I read somewhere that nearly 4000 students applied for Oct 1 deadline. Anyone knows how many offers were made?

Can't wait to find out if son got in! He applied Nov 1. Fingers crossed.

from the GT admissions facebook site:
“Our Early Notification round was extremely competitive this year. With over 3900 applications, we are seeing a significant increase in applications compared to last fall. These students are also academically outstanding, with an average GPA of 3.79, average testing of 1996 and over three weighted courses. We accepted 56% of the applicants, and these students averages were 3.97 GPA, 2095 testing and almost 4 weighted courses. About 36% of applicants were deferred and will be reevaluated in our Regular Decision round to receive an admission decision in mid-March.”

So 56% accepted, 36% deferred, and 8% denied or maybe incomplete applications. Last year, they said that 80% of early applicants were ultimately accepted, from which you might infer that approximately 2/3 of the deferred pool this year will eventually get in if it is the same situation this year (additional 24% accepted out of the 36% deferred). Maybe a little higher if the ratio of early applicants to regular applicants is higher this year than last.

One thing to keep in mind when discussing the percentage accepted is that Tech includes people who get Summer offers and GTS/AASU offers. Many students may not like the additional conditions placed on those admissions offers (e.g. attending Armstrong Atlantic State University for 2 years before being able to enroll at the main campus).

My limited experience confirms this. Two students from my high school, both a year older than me, balked at their conditional acceptances. The first went elsewhere and has stayed while the second eventually transferred through the Regents’ Engineering (Transfer) Program.

I can’t imagine that they would like it. They apply for admission to a major research university in Atlanta and they’re admitted to a small regional school in Savannah. Those effective rejections disguised as acceptances throw off the numbers.

The summer offers are conditional acceptances to GT. Summer admits have lower academic numbers, includes athletes and some others from the lower end of the admission pool.

median SAT of 1260 instead of 1360, gpa of 3.62 instead of 3.83, etc., but less than 5% of students are admitted summer (318/6720 last year).

The Savannah offer is not a Tech acceptance, a students application is transferred to AASU, where they are admitted and can earn an Associate degree, and then later apply as a transfer student to Tech in Atlanta or Savannah just like any other transfer student, but with an inside track if they have made the grades (but transferring to Tech is pretty easy anyhow).
