Chicago is not for everyone (see scores above) but when did it ever have a 40% acceptance rate? It’s always been a selective school. (See scores above.)

“It has a well-recognized medical school, but after that it is just plain, plain, plain.”
“As good as NU may be, it is essentially a midwestern institution with virtually no national reputation.”

These statements baffle my mind. You have interesting impressions, placido.

RE: “40%” acceptance rate for Chicago. Go back in time, not to 2011.

Placido: I have to disagree with you about WashU. Until my older son started looking at it, I knew little and didn’t think much of it. After being admitted to several top 25 schools, he chose WashU over some ranking in the top 10- and it really is an amazing school. I happen to believe it is among the top 2-3 in the country for premed, and has incredible research and other opportuniites for the undergrads, not just the grad students. It deserves it’s accolades. I also think USC is underrated in the national press…and not just becuse my younger son will likely matriculate here, but because it is a GREAT school for many majors. I think both WASHU and USC suffer from not having as much brand recognition as others. Everyone knows the name “Duke” for example, but they often don’t instantly recognize USC or WUSTL.
And while “brand” recognition is nice, what is nicer is the great education at these places, better in my opinion than others more widely known.

“RE: ‘40%’ acceptance rate for Chicago. Go back in time, not to 2011.”

I’m asking you when did Chicago have a 40% acceptance rate? When?

Ohio Mom,
A university is more than SAT score ranges and acceptance rates. The scores you posted are not from the last class. Here are the scores for the class that entered in the fall of 2011 from the USC admissions profile. Scores and admit rate for the class that will enter in the fall of 2012 have not yet been determined. Admit rate has been estimated.

Admit rate: 23%

Mid 50% SAT

CR 610-720
M 670-770
W 650-740

National Merit Scholars 247

Keep in mind SC has premier art schools where qualities such as imagination, creativity, talent, potential, originality and portfolio content are considered. These do not fit into a SAT or ACT list of numbers.

This is not 40%, but according to the Chicago Maroon the admit rate for the Class of 2011 was 34.9%.

May I suggest returning to the topic of this thread and not making it a comparison thread among highly ranked universities?

Georgia Girl, I am well aware that a school is more than SAT scores. However, I strongly disagree with placido’s statements regarding U of C, WUSTL and NU in particular. The SAT reporting is simply one way to refute his statements. I’m all for USC pride, but I find placido’s derogatory statements regarding the other schools erroneous. No need to resort to that.
