Could you get some 4's with some 5's on AP exams and be accepted into Ivy league schools? Assuming that you SAT scores are in line for Ivy and your GPA is up there.

i got three 4s and was accepting into Dartmouth, the school that i am attending

Thanks for responding Severely 17. My son is a Junior and last year he took AP Euro and AP Stat and got 5’s on both. This year he is taking AP Physics, AP US, AP Comp Science and AP English. Just wondering if he ends up with 4’s if this will put him out of the running for Ivy. But thank you for responding. My Son looked at Dartmouth this past spring and LOVED it! Oh and by the way Good Luck at Dartmouth

GMABCD aren’t you the guy who was ranting on the SAT consolidated list of answers thread from March?

AP scores don’t carry too much weight in admissions decisions anyway. Sure they may prove to be a tipping point, but I think people overestimate how much they count in admissions. As long as your son passes, and the AP Grade reflects his performance in the class he should be fine.

Since the most selective schools typically give placement or credit only for 5s and some 4s, I doubt that they view “passing”–ie, 3–as a good sign. But how much weight they put on it for admissions is one of those things that are hard to judge.

If I were on an admissions committee and a kid presented with a 4.0 and 3s or less on the AP exams and so-so SATs, it would be a clear sign to me that the HS prep was iffy and there was grade inflation going on. But then, I’m not on an admissions committee. :)

I agree with Consolation.
