I like Elanorci’s theory on the time stamps. That’s by far the most logical one I’ve seen, and it definitely makes sense, and would account for the likely letter person receiving a 535.

This whole decision process made me mad. Instead of sticking to tradition, shouldn’t they have adjusted to handle the increase in applications? How many people were actually rejected because their applications didn’t look good during the once over?

^ Harvard, Yale, etc do something like this, and as far as I can tell the basis for the immediate rejections is usually low GPA/SATs without compensatory factors (hook, urm, legacy, etc). 50% is extremely high, though. Harvard went on record saying something like 30% don’t make it to committee.

This is a truly great article which sheds an enormous amount of light on the whole college admission process. I cant help but feel slightly taken advantage of however because I wish I read this prior to advising my daughter to apply.
Perhaps the following disclaimer should be added to the application:
Although the average SAT score of our enrolled student is between 1370 and 1530, if you are not a minority, athlete, performing artist, significant donor, North Carolina resident,or child of uneducated parents, the likelihood of you obtaining admission is slim unless you score significantly higher than 1530 because a large amount of preference is given to those in these groups.

I wonder how many applications Duke would receive then?

I don’t get this AT ALL!!!

What are these times?? And why are there only 2??

I’m gonna apply ED so what do I need to know?

None of this matters… just send in your app and get the decision in december.

Im applying ED too, and just read through this.

I think the times are when the decision was uploaded to each persons account by Duke. Everyone views the decision at the same time, but I guess they upload in batches. I wouldnt worry about this though, it seems to have nothing to back it up it is just theories. The only explanation that made somewhat sense was the immediate decision vs the committee people. Again, I really wouldnt take this thread seriously at all

For the love of god why did this thread get bumped?!
