Hello! I’m currently a rising but I encounter myself debating on my schedule for next year. I’ve been part of the Tennis Team for my school since sophomore year.
However, I plan on taking 5 AP’s next year.
-AP BIO
-AP ENG LIT
-AP GOV & MACRO(1 semester for each)
-AP CALC BC
-AP ART HIST
-Art Aporeciation
With that being said, should I concetrate on academics for senior year with application, SAT/ACT studying, and 5 AP’s, and quit tennis? Or do both?
I’m really indecisive.
Woah… that is a lot to take on as a senior. Bio and Calc BC are notoriously hard.
It honestly depends on what you want to major in. For example, if you are going to major in STEM, I would advise you to not take Art Hist and Lit (unless you have a really good reason to).
Personally, as a former competitive swimmer of seven years, I would not quit tennis. You’ve been doing it since sophomore year, so it would kinda suck to not finish off your high school career strong. Again, this depends on what kind of person you are, so if you were forced into tennis by your parents or dislike the team and wouldn’t mind quitting it, then by all means, quit it (sorry that was a really long sentence).
It’s a bit late to still do SAT/ACT studying, but that would definitely be a priority. Those scores are important.
good luck!
I’ve actually been studying for SAT/ACT since freshman year! Thanks for your advice!
As a varsity tennis player, and tennis player for 4 years now, I would recommend to NOT quit tennis unless you have a really good reason. Colleges like to see consistency, plus you don’t seem to be the type of person who got forced into playing tennis so I suggest keep on playing.
Look to see what credits you might receive at some of your future colleges. At my daughters college, you would only get credit for BC and possible Bio. It’s not about how many APs. As for Tennis, yes stay on the team.
Actually my only reason to quit tennis in reality would be to strengthen my abilities for STEM, and to actually focus on academics. I’m a 3% top percentile student of my class and I wish to take 5 ap’s to earn college credit, not really for the GPA.
Although self-study is also possible, actually learning the material for the class is better for me as a guidance. My strongest ability is in STEM, but I also want to raise my GPA, earn college credit, and strive for Varsity this year.
There are a bunch of people on my tennis team (and me next year) playing varsity and taking 7 APs. It’s possible, just use your time wisely and study smarter not harder.
Junior Year was all AP’s with golf. Couldn’t have asked for a better class schedule. As long as you keep on top of your homework and don’t slack with breaks on the horizon, you should have no problem succeeding with a strong work ethic.
