Currently, I am planning on taking AP Calc BC, AP Physics 2, AP US History, and AP Chemistry for my junior year. I am debating whether or not to add in AP Lang next year. One of the reasons I am thinking of adding it is because I have run out of honors classes so I will have a GPA disadvantage the coming year unless I take a 5th AP. However, if I do take AP Lang my junior year, in my senior year I have to take AP Lit (the only other option is Brit Lit which is the hardest English class in our school). I don’t know if its worth it because from a college credit perspective, AP Lit and AP Lang give the exact same credit. Also, I don’t want to end up overloading myself with too many APs so I am not sure if 5 is doable.
Even 6 are doable if chosen wisely. I think chemistry and physics together will be too demanding. It also depends on a teacher. Normally chemistry and biology or physics and biology work better. Then you might want to add easy APs like HG or psychology.
Unless you are shooting for valedictorian, or risk falling outside of the top 7%/10% needed for automatic admittance to some schools, this really does not matter.
I would say that AP Lang is worthwhile since, if taught correctly, it will teach you to be a more effective writer. In addition to being a valuable life skill, it will come in very handy for your college applications. As a senior, you could still take AP Lit, if the school does not require you to take the exam. I agree that the 2 exams are pointless for many colleges, since you will not get credit for both. Personally I would drop AP Physics 2, since I’m assuming you’re taking AP Physics 1 now. If you’re taking Calc BC, Physics 2 is not going to be much of a challenge for you; you should be taking AP Physics C, but I’d save that for senior year.
Unfortunately my school doesn’t offer AP Physics C. But this year I self-studied AP Physics C: Mech with AP Physics 1 and next year I’ll self study E&M with Physics 2.
I am definitely going to take AP Lang. The only question is whether to take it junior or senior year. If I take it next year I’ll have a much higher shot at valedictorian, but then I’ll have to take AP Lit which I feel a little reluctant to take.
Also I am planning on majoring in Engineering so I am not sure whats best from that perspective.
If you are aiming for valedictorian you shouldn’t be questioning whether or not to take ap lit senior year, you must. Btw, I don’t think taking physics 2 with chemistry AND self- studying for E&M is going to work very well.
