I have 4 AP Classes this year, but it’s manageable since I’m on the block schedule. I have three AP in two terms, which isn’t that stressing unless you have APUSH, and one AP in the other two terms. Not really stressed. I was able to maintain an average amount of hours of EC.
The death sentence would depend on the AP classes you’re taking and the amount of hw given.

I’m really jealous of your block schedule. It sounds really nice. Especially since I have the notorious APUSH Along with AP Lang, AP Spanish Lang, and AP Bio (possibly APES too).

My parents have been pushing me to drop an AP. Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences?

I was going to take 4 and my teacher said with all my other classes (all my other classes are accelerated) and ECs it would be too much.
I’m sure it depends on your effots, how wisely you use your time, the class (to me AP Calc would be very hard while AP Psych or AP English wouldn’t) it depends on the person too.
Do what you think is right for you and what you can handle.

Hmm…It’s around the same in our school as well. 90% pass but only 60% end up with 4’s or 5’s.

I’m not too worried about the score since I’ll study on my own. I’m already dealing with a thoroughly apathetic AP Chem teacher this year. haha

I just wanted to make sure that 4-5 APs was a “healthy” schedule since it seems that the majority of CC does this.

lilac: You bring a good point. I also have a lot of ECs that I would like to continue junior year I’ll have to think about this a little more. I’m considering dropping AP Spanish or APUSH…

Thanks for all the input guys! I needed an objective view on this :)

The smart seniors at my school usually take 5-7 AP classes this year. I’m taking 11, and it truly is a death sentence. I was forced to drop Track during the second semester simply because I couldn’t juggle both at the same time. It was either dropping that or not practicing music anymore. But yes, it really depends on your schools, but generally, AP classes will generate a lot of homework and that combined with a multitude of them = no sleep.

If people at your school are warning you not to, then don’t. It really depends on what teachers you have and the course material, since the difficulty can vary from school to school. So I would definitely say don’t take 4 if your classmates are suggesting you don’t ;D

I think it depends on the schedule and the class. I’m in 4 this year, but we have an alternating day block schedule and I ended up with 2 each day, so it works out pretty nicely. Although I do have APChem and APUSH on the same day, and those are much bigger workloads than my other two. It all depends on your school. I agree with the person above, if the juniors at your school who are telling you it’s a death sentence actually are in 4-5 APS, then they’re probably right. :p

I’m actually expecting no life next yr :(…all I need is time for sports and I’m good, and it’s not impossible; one of my friends did it before (she got into princeton). My school has a weird system, I have all the classes all yr but alternating days, and AP bio and chem are 2 periods (3 hrs)…

Maybe 187 means that he’s taking 11 AP exams? It’s not really possible to take 11 AP courses :O

Thanks for the advice everyone I think I’ll go ahead and drop an AP (probably Spanish).

It’s a little frustrating because the courses themselves don’t contain hard material, but they’re so work intensive that it’s almost impossible to take all of them without throwing away your life :/
