A scholarship of $2,500 a year, renewable for each year you are in college

This part of the article is incorrect. If you are named a National Merit Scholar and awarded a $2500 scholarship from the NMSC, it is a one-time payment during your freshman year. It is not renewable.

By March of your senior year, you will find out if you’ve become a National Merit Scholar, in which case you are guaranteed one of three scholarships: A scholarship of $2,500; a college-sponsored scholarship; or a corporate-sponsored scholarship.

A National Merit Finalist will be notified in May-June of their senior year of high school of a college-sponsored award. The timing depends on when the student lists a first choice sponsoring college with NMSC. NMSC doesn’t begin notifying students of college-sponsored awards until May 1st.

Also, students can be offered more than one sponsored scholarship, but they can only accept one.
