5 on AP Calculus BC, enroll in what math as EE freshman?

I am an incoming EE freshman in HSSEAS. Assuming I get a 5 on the AP Calculus BC test, should I enroll in 31B or 32A? I have seen some places that Engineering only gives credit for 31A for a 5 on BC, but other places say everyone gets into 32A with 5 on BC.

My high school only offered AP Calculus AB, so I had to teach myself series, which I still cannot confidently say I understand. With this in mind, even if I CAN skip 31B, SHOULD I?

if you get a 5 on bc then i think you HAVE to take 32a

but then [AP Credit - School of Engineering and Applied Science - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/APCreditEN.htm) says 5 on BC only gives credit for 31A. On the other hand, [UCLA Department of Mathematics](<a href=“Undergraduate Program | UCLA Department of Mathematics”>Undergraduate Program | UCLA Department of Mathematics) says everyone gets credit for 31A an 31B for a 5 on BC. See what I mean about conflicting information?

maybe that’s a typo on the engineering website. 31a and 31b is pretty much calc bc so getting a 5 should automatically place you at 32a (multivariable calc).

You can (and should) skip math 31a and 31b.

^ Agreed. Don’t ever let any chance to skip a class go.

I don’t recall needing knowledge of series for either 32A or 32B. I did the same thing learning the BC material on my own (and I compressed infinite series into the 2 nights before the test), and it hasn’t really been a problem yet.

thanks all

can anyone confirm that engineering majors can get out of 31A and 31B with a 5 on Calculus BC? how about a 4 or a 5 AB subscore?

yes i got out of 31A and 31B with a 5 on BC as a bioE major

i dont know if the AB subscore affects anything at all
