.5 points in two semesters?

I take eight classes a year and they're all very tough and weighted kinda heavily. I'm a 2nd semester junior - is it possible to raise a 2.504 to a 3.0 in two semesters? What kind of grades would I have to get? Also - I'm going to be in one honors, five AP classes next year.

I've just recently started freaking out about my grades and college admission.

this is almost like a SAT math problem. It's a weighted averages question.

2.504*5 + 2x = 3.0 * 7 (since you've taken 5 semesters so far, and want an average of 3.0 across all seven semesters

12.52 + 2x = 21
2x = 21 - 12.52
2x = 8.48
x = 4.24

I don't know how your school weighting system works, so you tell me, can you average a 4.24 across two semesters?

How does a 2.5 GPA take 5 AP courses????? Do you basically just have to have a pulse to take AP's? Not trying to be rude, but I cannot imagine success in doing that.....How many AP's and honors have you already taken?

As a comparison, with two children: D1 was barely allowed into AP classes with a 3.5 GPA unweighted....D2 with a 3.0 unweighted isn't even allowed into honors classes (never mind AP)......

Your transcript is usually based on end of junior year GPA; while your senior schedule is quite rigorous, it probably will not affect that GPA (but will look good that you are challenging yourself....)

Good Luck

I had an extremely bad sophomore year.

Honors is based on the honors classes grades, not the overall grades.

AP...I'm only in one AP right now, and I'm extremely talented in biology.

Pllleaaase do not assume that because I've got a 2.5 that I'm stupid. I know you weren't...but...still.

I have a 4.0-max GPA system...so I don't know how a 4.24 would translate over.

On a 4 point system it is not mathematically possible to raise your grades to a 3 by the end of your senior year fall semester. With straight As it would just be possible by the end of senior year - but that is a bit late for college applications.

If you take your 5 semesters so far with 4 classes a semester

To end of semester 1 junior year
4 x 5 x 2.504 = 50.08 points
Next 2 semesters (junior spring plus senior fall) with straight As
4 x 2 x 4 = 32 points
32 + 50.08 = 82.08 points
82.08/28 =2.931 gpa by end of senior fall with all As this semester and next semester

To end of semester 1 junior year
4 x 5 x 2.504 = 50.08
Next 3 semesters (junior spring plus senior fall and spring) with straight As
4 x 3 x 4 = 48
48 + 50.08 = 98.08
98.08/32 =3.065 GPA by end of senior year with all As this semester and all senior year.

I take 8 classes a semester, across the board.

Thank you guys for helping me out, by the way.

8 classes a semester - not a year? It works out the same. If you have straight As this semester and next you will just be short of a 3 point by the end of fall semester. By the end of senior year you will just make it with straight As. For most schools that will be a bit late.

If you take your 5 semesters so far with 8 classes a semester

To end of semester 1 junior year
8 x 5 x 2.504 = 100.16 points
Next 2 semesters (junior spring plus senior fall) with straight As
8 x 2 x 4 = 64 points
64 + 100.16 = 164.16 points
164.16/56 = 2.931 gpa by end of senior fall with all As this semester and next semester

To end of semester 1 junior year
8 x 5 x 2.504 = 100.16
Next 3 semesters (junior spring plus senior fall and spring) with straight As
8 x 3 x 4 = 96
96 + 100.16 = 196.16
196.16/64 =3.065 GPA by end of senior year with all As this semester and all senior year.

Thank you. Argh.
