"Firewalker's music seems morbid just from looking at the band and song titles.

I'll have to take a listen"

Death metal is not for everyone. Or metal in general for that matter.

BG's new album is hilarious, and I'm a maniacal power metal fan so its ALL GOOD. And yes, Therion is amazing. I was reading a concert review on Jaxx's (a huge metal venue) site...and needless to say, I really want to see these guys in concert.

Princessbell, Im going to laugh when you listen to it and post about it. :)

I too will laugh :D

how to save a life - the fray.. of course!
chasing cars- snow patrol, duh
when you were young - the killers
lips of an angel - hinder. . how could you not love that song!?!?

"Grammy Family" -- Consequence feat. Kanye West
"The Corner" -- Common
"Gift Shop" -- The Tragically Hip
"Touch" -- Omarion
"Hoodie" -- Lady Sovereign

this is extra extra long. is anyone going to read it?

So...I was totally offended when I came back on here and saw comments about how people were going to laugh at me...no, just kidding! In defense of my musical taste, i like a huge variety of songs, but i'll admit, i'm a complex person who likes complex, emotional (not EMO!!) songs. metal doesn't usually strike me as complex or very emotional... one of my friends is in a metal band and is a big metalhead (and dumb as a rock, but that's a different story), but still, i'll admit the most i know is SOAD. But anyway, as promised, i took a listen to firewalkers top 5 and...

um yeah, so i used myspace music, which sucks, but...whatever!

cryptopsy-i listened to adeste infedelis (latin! supercool!) hmmm, this song definetly struck me as ADD in a way. the drums sounded like someone was banging a kid's head against a wall. and the cymbals sounded like go-go (dc people know what i mean). the wailing made my heart stop. and then the talking? creepy.

nevermore-um, i was too lazy to wait for this to load.

suffocation-okay, so this was the only band that had one of your songs on their page. bind torture kill...i liked this! I'm not sure why, but then again, my taste is pretty eclectic. it was nice and fast paced, and i could understand some of the words (well, not really, only bind torture KILLLLLLLLLL!!!)...nicely placed guitar solos...and the jackhammerish sound? strangely enough it actually fit in really well...is this an ode to that guy in cali who killed all the people? i hope not...this was definetely one of my fav's. i especially loved that cosmic wail pedal towards the end.

decapitated- there are 7 pages of bands that are called decapitated...random. so i picked the first one to be safe, and i listened to some song called spheres of madness. and there was clicking, and i was like, okay? so after 2 minutes, the scary voice comes and the clicking and...it was terrible. i did like the lead guitar chords...nice arragement there.

Therion- Yeah, so couldn't find the song you posted, but I listened to a few of the songs that were there and they were really nice...a nice unique sound. still kinda repetetive but...not bad! i liked that there were more elements than loud guitars and a weird voice. i liked that it was ominous but not scary...some of the other songs i'd be afraid to listen to at night :) swedish metal, wow, i'm really expanding my music borders now!

so, to sum up my "metal experience", um, metal is definetely a different sound than i thought. I guess it's more complicated than i assumed. o cam see why some people would like it...it could be catchy to some ears. i guess it's not so appealing to me because i like to sing aloud and dance, and the only song i could see myself singing to is bind torture KILLLLLLLLLL!! (lolz)some songs were disturbing, and others hurt my ears, but 1 or 2 weren't so bad and might find their way onto my playlist! i'm glad i gave these a listen!

Dammit...Foiled...

just kidding, you remind me of myself, princessbell.

Yes, Cryptopsy is home to one of the greatest metal drummers of all time, FLO! Watch his videos online, he's incredible. "adeste infedelis" is off their "Once Was Not" album, which is pretty recent. It's an okay song. Not their best album, IMO. Check out "Whisper Supremacy"; it's their best album.

Nevermore is actually a very respected band in the metal community; they are one of those rare "crossover" bands; metal lovers of all genres listen to them because of their complex song structures, great musicianship, and fan appreciation.

Suffocation is one of those bands you either hate or love. "Bind Torture Kill" is off their newest self-titled album "Suffocation". Great album, IMO. They keep those blast beats pumping.

Decapitated - Spheres of Madness is off a bonus CD, apparently. (had to wikipedia it). therefore you werent getting their album material, which is where the real goods are. "Revelation of Existence" is off their Organic Hallucinosis album, which was released earlier this year; suffice to say: INCREDIBLE. Im amazed at their guitarwork and drumming. Just ****ing brutal.

Therion is a rare gem in the metal world. Such a unique sound. They've evolved so much since their inception; they started with a really harsh, poor produced sound to full blown orchestral metal. Just epic. And metal as 4uck.

Im afraid you didn't get the full experience of those songs; you need a good sound system to hear the bass. Preferably a subwoofer that will produce the lows so you can hear the blast beats. It's an out of this world experience listening to it on full blast. It's guaranteed to p1ss off/scare your floormates, but that's when you know you're true to the music. And yes metal is very complicated; theres more subgenres than you'll ever know. And with that comes VERY heated debates about which genre such and such band is under, etc. Glad to hear that you're expanding your musical pallette!

Your turn, Firewalker. Suggestions, pbell?

Lips of an Angel-Hinder
Smack that-Akon
Sexyback-JT
Snow patrol-Chasing cars
Pussy Cat Dolls-Buttons

Hmmm...so I spent a while thinking about my response. I didn't want to seem too mainstreamish...what's the point if you've already heard the songs a million times on the radio? i like to think that my music taste is "indie" but that's pretty easy when you go to a school where everyone listens to music like that of isseestars (no offence meant at all! i like hinder too...sometimes).
but anyway. enough ado. here's my new list.

Quasi- The Rhino (i'm starting off with a bang!)

Death Cab for Cutie-Into the Dark

Killers-Under the Gun or Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll (if you can't find these songs, just ignore the killers-otherwise, they suck! You can always subsitute some Franz Ferdinand)

Gym Class Heroes- The Queen and I (for fun)

Badly Drawn Boy- Promises or Nothings Gonna Change Your Mind

Well, there it is. I pride myself on uniqueness, and I feel so, mainstreamy with that list. I feel depressed. Well, at least they aren't on the radio!

And I agreed to return the favor....when?

Firewalker is lame, but I'll do it. I'll get back to you tomorrow, pbell. thanks for the list!

I never said it was meant for you, firewalker...

Ok I couldnt find that Rhino song but I found a live video on Youtube. The drummer stole the show--she was amazinggggg. Otherwise the song just sucked. I think it was just the video, which was low-quality, but even then I didn't like the singer, it sounded like he was dying of 3rd-degree-burns, and there wasn't really a melody
