+ 5 weeks in the summer?

Hey guys, I got a message from columbia asking for more information because they are considering me for some program? I got the message from my mom and she said they were saying something about 5 weeks in the summer and a full ride but they needed more information? Anyone know what this program is called? Thanks guys

I got that too. It's called the National Opportunity Program (NOP) and it's for those who are out of the state of New York. Also, there is a program for in-staters called the HEOP. If you need a little more information, here's the facts-at-a-glance page:

Thanks a bunch.

yep yep heop..hmm i wasnt aware that you receive a full ride..that's sweet

When did you get this message from Columbia?

They couldn't reach my counselor, so they called home and talked to my mom yesterday. I have to call back today and give them some more info... hopefully that info doesn't disqualify me or anything. I only thought they had this program instate and was a bit disappointed because I lived about 10 minutes away from the NY border... soo close! But they have it national too.... lol, i'm so happy.

COols875 what r ur stats?

4.2w, 3.8uw. 1270 Sats 730/700/610 top 7% in class of i think it just dropped under 600 now... lol, so many people dropping. I believe we used to have well over 700 but they keep dropping!! I've also had a lot go on that falls in the "overcoming adversity" department - got Horatio Alger this year too.

So yea, I called them today and I have a phone interview monday. can't wait!

Which school at columbia did u apply to? (CC or SEAS)

I don't think one gets considered for HEOP or NOP for having high stats. It's designed for students "with potential for successful collegiate experiences" who are "academically and economically disadvantaged."

78% had incomes under 20,801
48% had high school averages under 80
over 75% are black or hispanic

As I understand, it's for students who might not normally be able to attend college. The thing that I don't understand is that there are HEOP/NOP students attending universities such as Columbia. How do these students both academically qualify for the HEOP and still gain admission to Columbia? I know they do have academic eligibility requirements for EOP/HEOP, etc because I was found ineligible for the EOP because of the "strength of [my] academic records."

Sounds odd. But yea, my income is low and my high school isn't the best around, especially compared to the surrounding towns', but still.... that's odd.
