Is this program really hard to get into at SD? I hear only like 7 or 8 people get in. What are the necessary steps to take from Frosh year to help succeed in getting into this program? It would be appreciated if someone could help me out or if someone who has gotten into this program specifically would be great!!

[UCSD Department of Computer Science and Engineering: BS/MS - Combined](<a href=“Home | Computer Science”>Home | Computer Science)

it says you need a 3.4 to even apply, so i would think its pretty hard

Honestly get involved in research ASAP and form relations with professors from the get-go. Check out CALIT2 for a lot of research opportunities.

hey oyama, are u current CS student at UCSD? if so, is CS at ucsd really raelly hard? i heard CS majors don’t have a life…like is it so difficult that there is no recreation/social life for cs majors?

I came in as Computer Engineering and switched majors a year in since I realized it wasn’t for me.

I had friends in both sides of the spectrum. Some found it easy and enjoyed a leisurely college life while being relatively successful (some more than others, obviously). Some others spend all their time struggling to just pass courses (this is where I found myself my first year) and will continue to do so until they’ve gotten their degree.

You’ll figure it out once you’re here. Don’t just keep the major if you don’t find it enjoyable and aren’t good at it.
