Hi. Does any one have opinion/knowledge which are best schools in NY area (nyc, LI, lower NY state). specifically: Adelphi..Queens College...Manhattan College...Mount St, Mary...St. Rose. Degree in Education elementary and special ed???

My DD was accepted to the education program at Queens but I am not sure if it has a 5 year program. We live on LI and she is at an upstate SUNY in a 5 year program where she will come out with a Masters in Childhood and Special ed. It’s a lot cheaper than Adelphi, etc. My daughter’s theory is that a SUNY is best for education because it’s governed by the Regent’s, who draw up the curricula that students are taught.

She loves her program and is about half way through it.

Mount St. Mary is in a horrible area; my friend who went there in the '70’s wouldn’t even let her own daughter go there. It’s a shame because the school did seem to have a lot to offer, we had been considering it… In my opinion, Adelphi is a party school where rich parents send their bratty kids who they can’t let live too far from home (Hofstra is similar). Manhattan College is a good school and we looked at it but feel we are getting better value at SUNY.

Mount Saint Mary’s offers little for secondary science education. We were interested in the school for secondary high school biology and when I called them, they told me they didn’t want to go down that road.
If interested in secondary education in the sciences…I’d look somewhere else.
