50-60% ?

I posted on the What Are My Chances? board the other day, and got a few replies regarding my stats and chance at Penn ED.

Two posters said that I have about a 50%, 55% chance at getting into Penn Early Decision (College of Arts & Sciences). This seemed absurd, as Penn is a huge reach for me.
I was hoping some people on this board could provide further insight? It’d be greatly appreciated.

....why, exactly, is it such a huge reach for you? I'm not seeing it.

I think you should apply to a local community college since PENN is a HUGE reach for you. You shouldn't even waste the money sending the application in.

/sarcasm

Wow.

dude, if u were coming from any other place besides Long Island, i would say that u were 95 percent in, as penn is fairly lenient with ed kids

however, the fact is that ur coming from an area that is the probably the second biggest feeder to penn, meaning that the most kids apply to penn from the long island area. It is fiercely competitive.

Yeah, you're right about Long Island.
I really wish I was from South Dakota right about now...

Sorry, I didn't mean to say that it's a huge reach... I guess it's just a reach. I'm pessimistic.

Hoofa (10)

I hope you like carpentry.

I like your chances. Even though tons of kids apply from Long Island, which will hurt you, you should be towards the top of that applicant pool.

Carpentry? Why...?

And thank you! I really appreciate everyone's candid assessment.

What other parts of NY, besides Long Island are big feeders for Penn?

because with stats like that it's obvious that you're going to have to work with your hands

Oh, ha.

Aren't you on this board a lot though? What do you think my ED chance would be?
