My daughter is a junior in hs and is diagnosed ADHD. She is not currently taking medication due to the horrible side effects and the fact that we are not seeing a lot of difference on or off meds. She also has diagnosed visual tracking, visual memory, and visual sequence deficits. I am 100% convinced she has a math disability, but our county refuses to qualify her as such. (Yes, I could spend $$$ having her privately tested, but the county is under no obligation to accept the results.) She has a 504 and receives accommodations based on both issues (extended time, reduced number of homework problems, NO scantrons). These accommodations are only necessary in math or in a heavily math based science. So, here's the question: Will the 504 carry weight in college or do I need to proceed with an OHI diagnosis and an IEP? I have been "assured" by the secondary level special ed coordinator of my county that the OHI is not necessary and that the college will have to honor the 504. Of course, I am skeptical. (And just to make this a lot of fun, I work as a teacher in the county.) I'd love to hear your thoughts and/or experiences and advice.

What is her Identified Disability under the 504, LD? Colleges vary on the amount of support they offer. They are not constrained by the IDEA to provide support services, though many do.
If there is documentation to support the disability, thus the reason for the accommodations, it should not matter if she has a 504 or IEP. As an aside, I have a S with a 504, who did have an IEP until 8th grade. He is identified OHI (ADHD).
Be sure you have updated testing prior to her entering college. Test results older than 3 years will not be considered.
