529 plan tax

The very reason college costs have increased is the government. Not every child is college material but the government and many in education have pushed the idea that college is the only way to go. Thus more people are entering college and college are raising their prices because people will pay. Plus government is willing to provide student loans, grants, etc. and as long as there is government $$$, people will take advantage of it. The best thing is for the federal government to get out of education all together. From Pre-K to College, leave it to the states and local school boards to decide.

Killed the department of education, etc.

Welp, that didn’t last long.

Hmm, may be playing into exactly what the White House wanted in the first place–to expand the AOTC without having to pay for it by cutting some other program.

@spayurpets - I had the same thought exactly.

The GOP congress didn’t have to kill it.

In a post-mortem in the NY Times about the 529 debacle by the White House, I thought this observation was pretty astute.

In my opinion, this was the revenge of the moneyed class. It was one thing that rich people could be outraged about without facing any backlash.
