529 plan...too late?

I'm 18 and going to college in the fall
Is it too late to open up an 529 plan to help pay for college/student loans?

If you need some help I found a great website that will help, with serveral things. No I don't make any money advertising, not that you'll believe me, but just check it out. If you don't like, no biggy, I tried.

depends on your state and if they give you an breaks.

I live in PA and I can deduct up to 12K off my state taxes for money put in a 529. That's a $360 savings in state income tax. Whatever little interest I earn this year will be non-taxable. I'm gonna be paying out at least 6-8 K in 2007 so I think it's worth it. I just opened an account for to pay for my son's tuition/room/board when he starts at NYU this fall
