I got an 8 on my essay and I did not provide core examples. So now I figure since I know how to write a good essay, I can easily get at least a 10. Now, how can I improve the other overall writing score?

brb competing nationally

Know what the SAT is really asking you and practicing.

read rocketreview & practice with the BB

what else can i do?

I agree with ivyleague, Rocket Review has a good writing section. My scores on the writing section of practice tests have been consistently higher since reading it.

Look up old essay topics and outline them with the details you would use. Learn the 14 grammatical rules in RR, the MC questions are very repetitive and once you know the rules it's easier to see WHY something is right and wrong, rather than just knowing something sounds right or wrong.

I've realized the writing section is the easiest to predict. While some things are just idiomatic and you just gotta know them, others follow distinct rules of grammar that don't change much. I suggest looking for grammatical patterns. Read guide books and look over stuff that you missed.
