There are 6 APs I want to take next year
-AP Lit
-AP Gov
-AP Calc BC
-AP Bio
-AP French
-AP Psych
Will I be able to do this without going crazy? I am taking 3 this year (AP Calc AB, APUSH, AP Composition) and they haven’t been bad. I’m shooting for top colleges, so I want to take everything I can, plus all 6 seem interesting. I feel like this would be doable, but 6 APs at once is practically unheard of at my school, especially senior year. Any thoughts/advice is greatly appreciated!
You’d probably be able to do it, but doing it without going crazy is a different question!
Remember that you’re going to be doing college applications. That’s going to take a lot of time. I’m not suggesting that you don’t take 6 APs, but just remember: you’re going to have a ton going on.
On the other hand, your lineup of courses looks managable–Gov and Psych are usually not too much work, and even Calc BC will be easier having had AB. It seems like you’re strong in English, so Lit won’t be a problem. That leaves Bio and French as solid academic subjects. It really comes down to your preference and whether you think you can handle the work and are willing to do so. You mentioned that the classes seem interesting, and that’s probably the best thing you can be thinking right now. As a senior, you’ll find it a lot easier to stay motivated if you enjoy what you’re learning. Considering that you’re doing well in 3 APs right now, you’ll be able to do the work.
Essentially, if you want to take the classes, do-- it’s a very challenging workload, but not necessarily an insane one. The exception to this would be if (at your school) 6 APs is unheard of because the teachers assign lots of in depth, interesting, time-consuming work that make it very hard to take even four APs, but I doubt that’s the case.
Best of luck with your decision!
Thank you so much that’s really helpful! I’ll go to my guidance counselor to ask about realistically juggling the courses with the college application process, and hopefully I’ll be able to take them.
